Issue#07
It was back in 2016 when I was home for the holidays. A group in my town had organized a blood donation camp, and I decided that this year, I would donate blood.
There are many good reasons why people donate blood, but my reason was a little different. I wanted to donate because every donor got a flashy and beautiful memento! It seems so funny now when I think about it.
I walked about one and a half kilometers to the camp and stood in line for almost an hour. When it was my turn, the doctor checked my blood pressure and found it was high. He asked me to rest for 15 minutes and come back. After resting, my blood pressure was checked again, but it was still high. The doctor said I couldn’t donate blood that day and advised me to see a physician. I felt sad, not just because I missed out on the memento, but also because I thought I might never be able to donate blood because of my blood pressure.
That moment was a wake-up call, and I started taking better care of my health.
Fast forward to August 9, 2024—I'm happy to share that I’ve now donated blood four times in the last three years! It all started with a blood donation camp at my workplace. After donating blood four times, I want to share some reasons why everyone who can, should donate blood:
1. There is no substitute for human blood. It can’t be made in any factory. Blood can only come from people.
2. Donating blood helps your body produce fresh blood, which makes you feel more energetic.
3. You feel calm and peaceful knowing you are helping someone. It’s a way to be grateful and give back.
4. Only about 40% of the population is eligible to donate blood. So, if you can donate, please do. It’s a noble cause.
Book of the week.
I received the book "The Defining Decade 20" last week. I’ve heard great things about it, so I decided to order a copy. Even though I’m in my early thirties, I believe that if I learn something valuable from it, I can help someone in their 20s. I am yet to start this book.
